Pines Transition Guide

Transitioning from traditional, elevated-heel court shoes to zero-drop, foot-shaped court shoes doesn't happen overnight. Playing on a flat shoe changes how forces distribute through your feet & legs. Give yourself time to make the adjustment.

Phase 1: Adaptation & Warm-Ups

Weeks 1 & 2

Daily Wear: Start by wearing your Atomic Courts around the house or for walking for 30-60 minutes a day to let your feet adjust.

Choosing Your Setup: If you're accustomed to conventional shoes with a very elevated heel, start with the Alt-4™ Drop-In Midsole (4mm drop). This reduces initial strain on your Achilles tendons and calves.

On-Court Limit: Keep court sessions to 15-20 minutes of light hitting, shooting, or footwork drills. Use the shoe primarily as a training tool right. Switch back to your old shoes if you feel fatigue in your lower legs.

Phase 2: Progressive Court Play

Phase 2: Progressive Court Play

Weeks 3 & 4

Increase Load: Gradually extend court sessions to 45 minutes of moderate intensity play.

Transitioning Midsoles: If you started on the Alt-4™ midsole, swap back into the Base-6™ Drop-In Midsole (zero-drop) for warm-ups, switching back to the Alt-4 if your calves feel tight.

Listen to Sensations: Mild muscle awareness in your arches, calves, and soles is normal as dormant foot muscles engage. Persistent, sharp pain in tendons or bones is a sign to back off and rest.

Phase 3: Competition Ready

Weeks 5+

Game Day: Progress to competitive play in your preferred setup - Base-6™ midsole for unfiltered ground feel, or Alt-4™ midsole for extra heel cushion.

Recovery Days: Use the Alt-4™ on back-to-back playing days or when recovering from heavy leg workouts to reduce calf tension.
